Osteopathic Spinal Manipulation
Osteopathic spinal manipulation is a manual therapy
technique used by Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, and Chiropractors to relieve pain and improve movement. It involves quick, controlled movements applied to joints, often producing an audible "click" or "pop" when pressure is applied. This sound is caused by
gas being released from joint fluid, a
harmless response known as cavitation. Spinal manipulation is effective for certain types of back pain, neck
pain, and joint stiffness, but it is most beneficial when combined with active rehabilitation and exercise. The technique is not appropriate for everyone, and its effects are typically short-term. The best outcomes occur when manipulation is combined with exercise, education, and active movement strategies.
